Flex Room Sitting Room

Hello! We have a flex room instead of a proper living and dining room, because it is too small to be both. My question is- can I use my dining table chandelier and put chairs instead of a table? Maybe put a footrest under the light? Does anyone have any ideas for this space? It is right off the entry. I will be getting rid of that armoire as well. Any ideas are welcome. We never use this space so time for a chance! Thank you!

What does the rest of the room look like and where is the TV?

You can, but would need to raise the chandelier by shortening the chain.

It looks like you have plenty of room for both a table and a grouping of 4 chairs around a coffee table if you remove the armoire. You may even have room to put the armoire on the back wall under the shelf, keep the table where it is, and still add the seating on the other side. Maybe you don't use the table because it's not comfortable sitting on a bench. Find some chairs that work instead. You might also want to paint the wall a warmer color that better works with your carpet.

I don't know if it's practical, but I've always wanted a little corner with two smaller scale and fairly upright arm chairs and a small round dining height table. Somewhere I could sit very comfortably and read a book or work on a puzzle and have a coffee or cocktail. I think it would look fabulous with a chandelier over the table.

Here are some more pics. Again, that yellow dresser is going! It’s like the room of unwanted furniture! Anyway, there isn’t a tv in the room, it’s right off our entry and more of a living/dining room. I’ve not thought of painting the walls to better match the carpet, but now I will probably obsess about that! :) I would love chairs right off the kitchen like that but this house isn’t really set up for that. The picture is beautiful I also like the idea of the corner smaller table, thanks! That would work nicely to still have somewhere to sit and have a table accessible l

Hi kt_stock, the room has great potential. A few suggestions,

    1. Find heavier curtains that compliment the carpet.

    2. Once you have new curtains, pick a color out of them and repaint the room that color. (This is easier that trying to find curtains that compliment the color of the walls.) This will help to define the space as its own entity.

    2. Do remove the high shelf on the wall. It is cluttered and does not allow you to have a clear focus point.

    3. Next find shades to soften the light from the ceiling lamp and shorten the chain.

    4. Next, consider replacing the table with a round one.

    5. Move the armoire (it is beautiful) to the wall behind the table.

    6. Create a living room with a a couple of comfortable reading chairs, a round "coffee" table and perhaps a tufted bench. (This allows for a highly malleable space)

Also, stand in various points of access to this room. Write down what do you see first, second and third. This is how you determine the visual hierarchy of the room. It take time to discern. Once you have the list, you can figure out what needs to do and what to stay, what needs to be boosted and what muted. The idea is balance and harmony. This does not man bland. You can have a very bright and strong statement object that becomes the focal point of the room and creates harmony by ruling supreme. Above all, enjoy the process of the hunt. Good luck!

You have plenty of space for a nice seating area of armchairs or a small sofa and coffee table, whether or not you keep the table you have or replace it with a round one. Your table is taking up more space than it needs to since you are centering it on the light. Ignore the light fixture and determine how you want your furniture laid out. You can remove or move the light fixture once you know how you want the room to function.

I think you have room. Dining: I‘d add two more similar chairs, remove shelving and add large art on wall. It would be great to sand and restrain bench the same color as table. Curtains should be hemmed and suggest a longer rod so curtains rest more on wall. If you need privacy, just add a bamboo blind.

Sitting area: duplicate window treatment above. Select furniture that suits the dining room. You could cut the shelf and place on the empty wall with framed prints.
