Thanks for the confirmation; I'll plan to purchase a new medicine cabinet. What's the best way to ensure this doesn't happen in the future?

Don't allow anything to touch the back of the glass and rub the silvering off.....and install a fan and run it when you shower.

Is it possible to remove the doors. A glass company could replace the mirrors for you. We did it ourselves after having a piece of mirror cut to the correct size

@Rose Pekelnicky hmmm I imagine it's possible, I'll check today to see. How much does it cost to get mirrors cut? If its fairly cheap I might try that. I found a medicine cabinet that looks like it'll fit perfectly in the space on our bathroom wall and it's only $65. Since the entire wall is tiled and has already been pre-cut to fit the cabinet, I'm limited in what I can easily install without having to cut into extra tiles.

Our piece of glass was only a few dollars. Success would probably depend on how easy it is to get the glass out.

Oh good to know! I was able to remove the glass door pretty easily. I'm going to take it over to a glass service shop nearby and see if they can cut a replacement piece of glass for it. I'll post an update after I chat with them. Thanks for the tip!

All the medicine cabinet manufacturers these days will not warranty their mirrored doors. So the advice we all get and give to others is to never spray anything on the mirror. Dampen a microfiber cloth with water only and use it to wipe the mirrored door clean. I hope you are able to get the mirror replaced!

I checked at a local glass shop and they quoted an amount (labor + materials) that was almost equivalent to the new medicine cabinet...so I'm thinking that I'll try and install the new one first, and if that doesn't work then I'll go back to the shop. Fingers crossed!
