When should I collect Pelargonium seeds

I want to collect seed from some geraniums that are currently growing.... they are getting the spike(y) seed pods, but I do not know how long they need to mature enough before they will be viable.

After collecting them do I need to stick them in the fridge for a lengthy period before they will germinate.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
