barn-door on fireplace wall?

Wondering if anyone here has the ability to photoshop or some other way to show the brick of my fireplace painted white with a barn door on a rail to the right of the fireplace. FYI tv cbinet would wither be removed or painted or redesigned to work with rustic style of barn door.

Thanks!

What is the reason for the barn door?

to add some visual interest, take the curse off so much brick (essentially hiding some of it) making the room feel more current and less seventies

thank you. thats not my style though. Here in new england barn doors as decorative pieces are used all the time in restaurants high end homes, etc. And non functioning doors are used all the time in decorating.

For crying out loud paint the brick the same as the walls I hate exterior painted brick but interior no problem IMO and a heck of a lot more sense than a barn door to nowhere.

    Whitewash brick. No barn door.

Also not understanding the barn door idea. I do support painting the brick, but I also like it as is -- maybe add a mantel, some floating shelves, some art. it's a pretty space, just needs a little something....

Your wall color goes really well with the brick as it is - love your paint choice

I would agree with no door. Then there’s fireplace, door, television. I like your paint, built ins. I see it as a nice space as it is. I don’t see it s 70’s.

If it were me I’d consider a large vertical gridded mirror on the brick and leave the brick finish as is. In order for the brick to work w the room - if painted - it would need to be cream (not as nice as white brick IMO). https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/decor/mirrors/teak-floor-mirror/

And if you like the mirror idea then I’d re home the 2 round mirrors on the other wall and do a nice larger scale art piece there.

Is this another April Fools' joke? Barn door to nowhere. If not, and you're asking design type people for advice, you just got it. No barn door. There are many ways to add visual interest than that.

First of all, your style isn't rustic. It's modernish/transitional, not New England farmhouse--gray walls, sofa with straight lines, drum shade, drum coffee table. If it were a real New England house there'd be no painting of brick or fake farm doors. If you want visual interest, fill the fireboxes with wood logs as below on the left. Put beautiful birch logs in the fireplace.

You did ask about whitewashing the brick. I'm always against this approach 80% of the time since the brick in question is often the most texture and color in a room. But here's how you could do your brick. Here's the link: https://www.younghouselove.com/how-to-whitewash-brick/ (This is a good blog to follow if you want updated look with rustic touches.)

@thinkdesignlive- I love that mirror (and Arhaus). I have a 15 ft wall in my kitchen with wainscoting on bottom across from two 7 ft side by side islands. Im thinking i might like this on the wall in the kitchen! so thank you! When you say the brick would have to be cream is that becasue of the color of the tv cabinet? If so, we are planning on painting it to match the color of painted brick if we go that direction.

Paint or whitewash the brick and then instead of a barndoor, mount something 3 dimensional on the brick. .......like a hand-carved pitchfork or wood grain thresher.

Beverly I like the idea of a sliding screen like that as well. Where do you source that from?

I did rendering with barn door aside, but I think barn doors are out already.

Thank you so much! I agree it doesn’t look good and would definitely need to remove the cabinet if I went that route but it is so much better when you can actually see it so thank you I really do appreciate it.

there is just something so plain and boring about this fireplace and wall. Any chance you’d want to show a pic with a beam the color of that barn door I’ve the wood box and fireplace (arch is throwing me off) and doors (wrought iron with glass) over fireplace? 😊 or if you have suggestions I am completely open To them! This is the most challenging fireplace ever

jodifina! I show you one look that I like. You can go the same. Get nice chair for corner, or some plant high enough, get screen...Get some mantle, wall art or some decor (frames...etc)

I think the only way to properly address the brick wall is to know how the side cabinets and TV will be designed as you say those will be taken down - yes?

I am not a pro. I think if the brick were a creamy color to match the tv wall, it would add texture to your room without being so dominant (and massive). Then fill the wood holder, buy a simple mantle and add interesting art pieces, (I love the rustic farm implements idea from Beverly). Leave the tv where it is. This can be the best wall in your house. But the brick color makes it more visually intrusive right now.

Your house is beautiful, the room is a great size and layout, incorporating nicely a fireplace and a tv unit! You feel this gives you a 70ties feel though. Because the brick wall is so large it may seem that is the issue, however it seems to me that what is a bit out of place is the color of the tv cabinet that stands out and showcases the style difference between the fireplace and the rv walls. The cabinet has good bones and proves its usefulness so I am simply suggesting to paint it in a dark grey/charcoal slate color pulled of the fireplace. This will make the tv visually dissapear and blend in with the brick! Yes I would keep the brick! It is a great cooler color(not reddish) and would blend so nice with your other rustic accents. You were right to intuitively think of a wood rustic accent to go inbetween the brick and the cabinet, to bridge that divide. A barn door is not the answer, you need a piece that fills the corner.

Suggesting a nice low chair that together with the sectional will complete the seating arrangement by the fireplace and draw the eye away from the divind line between brick and fireplace.

You can then pull the look together with a beautiful rug that matches the old world farmhouse style better.

With the right chair and rug you can pull this look together keeping the brick and either keeping the cabinets or (my reco) painting them a dark slate color

Put a large piece or art or a beautifully framed mirror to the right of the fireplace. That's all you need. The brick looks great, is neutral, and gives you nice contrast to your builtins. The only other thing I would do is get rid of the gray walls, which don't work with anything else in the room. Painting the brick will devalue your home imo.
