Purple and Red . . . OH MY!

It is so difficult to get an accurate photo of purple and red roses . . . I find I get the best results when both are in the photo.

This morning, with the temperature rising, I picked a bloom of the deep "wine" or purply-red 'Eugene de Beauharnais' (aka "Le Grande Capitaine" or what ever you wanna call it) . . . And also a nice dark red bloom of David Austin's 'Prospero'. Neither had much stem to speak of, so I put them together in a nice old pink Fenton glass vase (at least, I think it's Fenton).

And there they are . . . An almost perfect rendition of purple and red.

BTW -- it just hit 106 here, in view of the Pacific Ocean.

TEAS are just starting here . . . "George Washington Richardson" ('Mlle. de Sombreuil'), "Jesse Hildreth", and 'Mme. Lambard'. But just starting.

Gorgeous! Please keep the heat down there please! We soon will have daily temps over 100 in a month or two. Ugh!

I'd LIKE to keep it down! Shortly thereafter, the temp dropped to 90, the humidity rose, and tropical-ish cumulus clouds showed up. I've never seen weather like this.

Beautiful blooms Jeri! But HOW ON EARTH is it so hot already? Yikes! I hope it cools down again quickly for you. That sounds like a bad harbinger for our West Coast fire season (I need to order a better filter this year before the season hits, so perhaps I should look into that now...)

Jeri, I saw this the other day and meant to compliment your photo of two of my favorite roses. That's an amazing trick to fool the camera into representing truer colors. I'll have to remember it if I ever get another camera...or a smart phone, lol.

I hope your weather has moderated. I haven't seen a national forecast in several days.

John, it took a few days, but TODAY the sky is blue, the air is a cool 70, the sea breeze is persistent but gentle, and the sun is a positive blessing. I'm even wearing a sweater!

The big "Grandmother's Hat" down under the old avocado tree was somewhat sheltered from both wind and heat, and is playing her own tune, to greet spring.

Jeri, I'm soooo glad your weather is cooler. GH seems to be doing her thing, as usual. Mine isn't blooming yet, but some of my TEAS are, lol. Just a bud here and there showing color, but still...
