Where do you live, and do you know what a fig wasp looks like? It's not an ordinary wasp; it's a very particular size and does not look like the wasps that are common to the U,S.

The reason that many tasty species of Mediterranean figs do not produce edible fruit in the U.S. is that the fig wasps needed for pollination are not present here. Many of the common figs in U.S. gardens do not need wasps to produce edible fruit. What species of fig do you have?

What hardiness zone are you guys ?

I'm in zone 8b Southeast Coastal Georgia. I didn't get a real good look at the bug; it was black and maybe an inch long, but I'm not quite sure. The fig bush is Brown Turkey and it has born fruit before, not as plentiful as I would like. The bush is about 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It's about 2 years old. I'm sorry I'm not more clear.

From what i have seen online and read the fig wasp is very small as it must be able to get inside the eye of a fig and basically resides in certain parts of California and some other countries.

Yellow jackets and wasp etc do come by our fig plants as well but not like in the past since not many plants in yard anymore.

There was a PBS video some years back called The African Queen or something along those lines and it was excellent camera work up close showing the fig wasp entering and doing its business inside the fig .

Beown Turkey is a common fig that does not require pollination via wasp or another fig tree..
