Because of the oak tree and Florida flat I would not recommend building planter boxes against the house or screen porch. You don't want that debris piling up against the house or a barrier in the way of the cleanup.

Do the patio right up to the house and screen porch. Make it permeable and make it drain away from the house. Make it an oak tree easy cleanup surface.

The patio landscaping will be large pots filled with tropical foliage that can be rearranged like the furniture.

I like the idea to do the patio up to the house. when you refer to debris against the house do you think having planters with soil that gets watered could damage the foundation or simply mess of oak tree pollen and leaves? (61 yard bags worth last season for the record!)

You don't have the elevation change - drop needed to make planter boxes or low retaining walls against the house. Filling a planter box with soil and/or the ever accumulating oak leaves will raise the wet and decomposition above your foundation to the house wall That is not even good with a cinderblock house.

You can certainly have beds against the house that drain freely over the patio, but the soil in them shouldn't be above the foundation slab of concrete.

Design wise in this situation I don't see planting beds against the house or screen porch as much of an enhancement anyway. Do your planting on the outside edge of the patio. Just leave a big opening to remove all the oak leaves.

Thank you for the additional clarification. Definitely want to ensure we keep our foundation healthy as we discovered some crumbling in the front after we purchased. I was not even thinking much of outside edge of patio that makes sense to focus there.
