Paint the door and trim the WALL color and simply change sheen to satin or semi. No need for brain surgery when what you want is the light and the view. The door ISN'T the "feature" . the light and view to garden are that. Pain it the " I can't remember right now" color. : )

Thank you, Jan! This idea makes total sense and never would have occurred to me. I tend toward “brain surgery”... so simple solutions don’t generally make it to the top of my mind :) I thought there was some rule to always paint the door and frame complementary colors. DW remembered the color - Frothy Cappuccino.

Would you stick with basic ceiling white for the ceiling then, or do something different there?

Ceiling white can be ANY white. Try Chantilly Lace, it's bright and clean with just a bit of warmth. ( Ben Moore) do it in matte finish, DON'T use crappy out of the box ceiling paint : ) Consider what the REST of your ceilings are as well., And thank you : ) to the last comment.

Thank you, Jan. I will look into Chantilly Lace! As to the rest of our ceilings... they need to be redone, when we get to it. I don’t even know the last time the LR ceiling was done and it has the “I’m yellowed out and old” blues, for sure. We have vaulted ceilings in the LR so it’s a project to do them. We can do it - just... time and priorities. :) It’s so easy to ignore them, but when I see them it’s depressing - LOL.
