Chopped peony question

A couple of years ago, I planted two peonies, which for the past two years sprouted, and were then chopped down by my husband, by mistake while weed whipping. I gave up on them and planted a new one safely in a garden bed. Lo and behold, my poor mistreated peonies sprouted again this year! I put tomato cages over them to clearly mark them from the weed whip. I’m wondering if there’s any chance they might do well and even have a bloom or two this year?
