Agonizing over speed oven

We want to get a speed oven - I like the convenience of being able to use it as a microwave (husband doesn't like microwaves. which is how we settled on a speed oven), and the option of having a second oven for some side dishes. Unfortunately, Advantium 240 is out due to the fact that we can only put it in an island / under the counter, so we are looking at other 120/240 speed oven options.

We are choosing between the Cafe Advantium 120 CSB913P2NS1(we don't love the look of the GE profile ones, and they aren't much cheaper), the Bosch 240v speed oven HMC80252UC (but why are the reviews so bad??), or something else and would love to hear recommendations. The appliance stores around us don't carry Miele and their speed ovens also are a bit above our price point :).

The Bosch speed ovens are at a better price and we are getting a Bosch dishwasher / fridge so could save a bit more money on top of that, but the reviews across different sites seem pretty bad (averaging 2.5 - 3 stars and mostly about reliability issues display giving out etc.) Does anyone have one and could share some user experience with it and could recommend it?
Do people like the Advantium 120v and think it's worth the price?
Anything else you would recommend?

Some "speed ovens" aren't speed ovens. They're convection microwaves with one or two combo settings. They're not worth the bother. OTOH, for your purposes of having a microwave be more than a microwave, and having an extra "oven" a convection microwave might work for you.

I have an Advantium 240 Pro and like it a lot. I don't use the speed features very often because my need to do so regularly evaporated soon after my kitchen was finished and while I was still learning. Sometimes, however, it's a miracle that saves the day.

I don't know that they've improved the 120V models enough to make them really useful. If you check older threads in Appliances, you should find discussions of why under counter is not recommended for 240v, and how some people were able to work around it. Good luck.

FWIW the Miele 6100 speed oven is $2300, in between the cost of the two you're looking at. I have it and it's been fantastic for the last 6 + years.

That $2300 Miele H6100BM is a 24" model. The cheapest 30" model, Miele H6670BM, is $3700 compared to the GE Profile PSB9120SFSS for $2240.

All miele speed ovens are 24”. You can get trim kits to make them 27” or 30”. You need to look at the interior dimensions. I have had my miele speed oven for almost 6 years. It is a great extra oven and a good microwave. It has a broiler unlike some other speed ovens. I only use the speed function occasionally. Being retired - “Speed” is rarely in my vocabulary these days LOL. I paired it in a stack with a CSO. I have my 30” next to it.

The combination of Miele CSO and Miele SpeedOven is absolutely wonderful to work with. I can only recommend it -- assuming it fits the budget. That's the big problem with Miele in general. You usually get really nice appliances, but you pay quite the premium.

wdccruise: I did not realize you were looking for a 30" speed oven. I missed that. However your very rude response to my attempt to be helpful was uncalled for and mean. A much kinder response would have been to say, oh thanks but I really want a 30" speed oven, and the Miele 30" ones are more expensive than their 24" ones.

@malabacat wdccruise isn’t the original poster... I am :)... I’m looking for a 30” but not miele as the appliance stores that take care of customer service and repairs around me don’t carry them.

Hello Hu-412406241 and Houzz friends,

We have a 30" wide cabinet space in our island and are debating between our existing 24" microwave with trim kit vs. Advantium 120v. I considered the Sharp drawer microwave but have read a substantial number of negative reviews (on Houzz and on other web sites) about reliability. As much as I like the idea of a drawer microwave, I cannot stomach the idea of buying something with high risk of failure within 2 years. What did you end up choosing for your 30" space? If you chose the Advantium 120v, are the performance/results worth the price (currently $3500 as of January 2024, without Monogram rebate).

I am also looking into the Miele speed oven. Thanks for any advice you might offer.
