A Correction to Julia

Julis, I told you there were no scapes yet, and that was the case day before yesterday. This morning, however following a night of intense rain, Fernstone has a number of scapes that are 6 or 8 inches high. Quite a few iris are budded also, so it appears the season will begin at the end of the month or the beginning of May, depending on how lonlong lit takes for the scapes to mature.

kay - I wondered when you would start seeing scapes. Let's keep our fingers crossed for no late freezes.

Really, Debra! And they are forecasting "lower than normal temps here April 16th to the 22nd. One late frost has already done a number on them. Hopefully they are wrong but we do usual have a "blackberry winter" so it may well happen.

Wow! The lowest night temp here they are predicting thru the 24 is 42 degrees. I hope that sticks. Lower than normal temps, but not bad.

Well, temps predicted thru the 24th had all been in the 40s, but I see a couple in the upper 30s in the next 10 days. No frost or freeze, but I am feeling less optimistic. No scapes on Dumortieri, so not going to be an early spring here. It is usually blooming the last week of April, and has been as early as April 10.

We have had no late frosts in Central Ohio this year. The flowering trees are spectacular and the daylilies are looking healthy as are the hostas.

We have had frost that did in the blooms on our Magnolia . I wonder , this seems to happen every year .......Will I ever live to see the Magnolia bloom and die off naturally ? I doubt it . I thought climate change was making everything warmer . So far we have had 2 killing frosts and snow ( about 3 inches of the damn white stuff just last week ) UGH!!

Oh no, so very sorry. We were supposed to have 3 days in a row las week of frosts/freeze. There was a rather light frost Tuesday, a hard freeze was predicted for Wednesday night. I left very early Thursday to be with my son who had gallbladder surgery. Not quite light then but I could not see frost and really did not feel that cold. Another possible but light frost on Thursday. At any rate, when I got home today everything looked fine. I see a few plants that look a little wild, but nothing mushy. So grateful for that!
