Optimal glass tabletop size for a custom order walnut base?

Hello, I'm looking for help deciding on the best size glass table top for a walnut coffee table base that is 38Lx18Wx18H. The sectional sofa it'll sit in front of is 136x84. The seat height is 20 and depth is 40. Based on the dimensions of the sofa (and if my math is correct), the coffee table should be between 48-64 inches in length and 26-30 in width (30 is the max width to stay within the boundary of the L of my sofa). The room is long and narrow. I'm thinking the glass tabletop will be rectangular but I could do oval. I'm wondering if there is a magical calculation for determining the optimal overhang for glass tabletops with this type of base. Pictures of the base from the Etsy maker are added. Beautiful base. I don't have a magic formula, but I think oval is a better choice, less likely to hurt a person or be damaged if there are no corners to bump. The more overhang you have, the more risk of the top tipping. Perhaps try mocking it up by using painters tape on the rug or cutting a disposable plastic table cloth to size?

Cardboard cut to an oval or rectangle shape, set on your base, will give you a good idea too.

I'd do a rectangle shape in front of a sectional, which will be more functional and more in line with the base style. Try the size with cardboard to see how it works in your space. You can have the corners slightly rounded so you don't have sharp edges.
