People forget that these days, contractors are interviewing you as much as you are interviewing them. Were I a GC, my first question to you would have been "How did you get my name?" The second would have been "How many other contractors have you spoken to?" If you were a referral from a previous client that I'd do work for again, you'll go to the top of my list. If you told me I was the 5th guy you'd spoken to, you'd drop right to the bottom.

You may have been giving off the "I'm a price, not a value, shopper." vibe. Ain't nobody got time for that these days.

All in pricing for every thing for the reno? Everything specified down to the door stops? I would expect a month to six weeks in todays times with everyone busy.

If you are interviewing design/build firms, then I infer the addition hasn't even been designed yet. If so, you're not in a position to competitively bid the project at this point.

I would expect a design/build firm to be able to provide a proposal for the design and costing of the addition within a week to 10 days of their on site visit. That's the timeline for a proposal only. Where your project would fit in their queue depends on their current backlog.
