Same tile bedroom and master bath

I have laminate flooring throughout house and carpet in bedrooms. Husband hates carpet. Remodeling master bath and he wants to run the same tile thru bedroom and master bath. Not sure I love the idea, but maybe. I've been told no wood look tile next to laminate. What kind of tile would look good and would you use same tile in bath and bedroom?

I dislike any tile in the bedroom. It is a very cold atmosphere, with or without an area rug. If you must get rid of the carpet, then get hard wood floor with area rug. This is a much warmer look and feel to any room, especially a bedroom.

My problem is the laminate flooring. It comes up to the bedroom door and any wood or wood type floor might look awkward. I'm no decorator but that's what I'm hearing. What do you think?

It depends on what the laminate looks like.

Doesn't blend in with wood or wood look. Even with a threshold looks like an afterthought

What tile have you chosen for the bathroom? The easiest thing is to continue the laminate into the bedroom and pick a stone-look tile. Don't work with a wood look tile. Super simple.

Thanks. Laminate is 17 years old and still looks good. I found a tile that I think will work. It's kind of beachy which is okay here in Florida. Should I go with this or stone?

Ohhhhhh kay...we have some food for thought.

Your laminate is 17 years old. For a laminate, that's getting into the 'almost too old' range. A laminate floor from 17 years ago will have a life expectancy of 20-25 years....TOPS.

That means you are ABOUT to redo the ENTIRE house with new flooring. That's both the 'good' and the 'bad' news. You have about 7 years to think about this.

Because you are about to START the update (believe me, once you update ONE THING you will realize how tired everything else looks) you REALLY need to map out your 7 year renovation plans.

Yep. You will plan on 7 years worth of changes to your home. I know...sounds weird. Just because you update a bathroom floor, why would you need to 'plan' for the next 7 years of your life? Because we all get bored with our homes after awhile.

OK. Good thing is you have NOT started! Excellent! Now is the PERFECT time to do a 'Master Plan'. Don't worry. You are NOT picking materials...just colours. You want to know what you are WORKING towards.

Going piece-meal through a home renovation *can be fine....but only if you KNOW where you are headed. If you go blindly into each and every project, you are going to have a home that looks like it was coordinated by someone with visual impairment.

Now that you have been given a 'heads up', I suggest you put your tile stuff on hold....for now and take TWO WEEKS to gather your ideas (ahem...research....find photos you like and print them out...circle the things you LOVE about the space). Then go out and BUY a large paint chip wheel. Now you have everything you need to PLAN your colours.

Materials change. Every 18 months the flooring world removes vast amounts of options and replaces them with 'fresh' options....That means if you do the house floors in 7 years....you will not find the same products you find today. But you CAN find a COLOUR that is similar to your original concept.

Good luck. Take the 2 weeks and find out what you want your home to look like when you are FINISHED...in 7 years.

Laminate still looks good. The plan so far is when that goes to replace with wood look vinyl or tile. Color scheme will be fairly neutral. So it will blend with the tile.
