Keep in mind many of the ones I carefully dried and stored ended up rotting anyway, but these which I practically ran over with a truck and were scattered by wild animals are doing fine.

I did just replant a few of the clumps I was moving, but the rest needed to move and sit out of the ground for a while so I could change the bed layouts. Many were mailed out as well so they needed drying to ship.

I still have too many. I knew I had a problem when I was approaching 300, so the goal was to get under 100 before I was allowed to "try" any new ones... I made it, so now the spring bulb catalogs are just taunting me with all kinds of new options.

'carefully dried and stored'. might be a slight exaggeration. leaving them out in the sun for a couple days in 93F and then dumping them in small piles under the shade of the kid's trampoline for another few weeks after it looked like they were burning up in the sun might be a little closer to the truth.

As long as you keep the leaves on the dug-up bulbs so they can mature properly, you don't need to fuss over them while they are out of the ground. Many years ago, my son worked for a university, which seasonally changed out its bedding plants all over the large campus and dumped all the daffodil bulbs in the trash, literally. Free to anyone who wanted some, so DS brought me two trunk-fulls of them. It was not a great time for me to plant them,, so several hundred of them stayed in wheelbarrows for several weeks (I did toss some soil on the bulb parts, left the leaves exposed).

I loved getting those free daffs, and you ought to see them now! Altho, all of them are flat on the ground at this moment, thanks to the all-day snowstorm we are still having (7 inches and counting) -- grrrr. You ought to have seen the flowers yesterday, lol.

Have you considered putting the ones you dig out on the tree lawn some weekend with a sign that says “free daffodil bulbs”?

I just found a group of daffodils at the back of my property today. It was such a nice surprise! I find them so cheerful and don’t know why I have never planted any...

And now I have some to divide and replant 😀

I pass a house on my way to work that has a border of daffs (yellow and white) that line the driveway and across the front of their property. It really is a beautiful site!

Thanks Babs, I will try that. We really don't get much traffic other than a few neighbors, but you never know!

GardenHo what a nice surprise. Every now and then I see a lonely clump of daffodils along the side of the road and I wonder how in heck they got there! Maybe I should just start tossing the extras out the window as I drive and see what happens. Kind of Johnny Appleseed you know! Let me know if you want more replant lol

Many years ago I was in Brugge, Belgium and the lawn at the “Nunnery” was a mass of daffodils. It was so beautiful I have never forgotten it.

I would be open to replacing more of the front lawn with daffodils. Nunnery isn’t the worst look either considering my daughter turns 13 next month.

A farm in Litchfield, CT where I used to buy my beef has a beautiful field of daffodils. The farmer told me they were planted by his grandparents (or maybe his parents, can't quite remember). Kind of difficult to get to in peak as it's a small country road with lots of people/cars, but well worth at least a drive by.

The daffodils even have their own Facebook page lol.

Pictures just don't seem to do this place justice. Here's an article from last year with a slideshow. Sorry, every other slide is an ad and the photos STILL don't do it justice (looks like photos were not taken at peak) but it might give you an idea of how beautiful this area is. It's really breathtaking in full bloom.

P.S. Kato, you should be able to easily get rid of those unwanted bulbs. I would take some if I were closer. But barring that, I love the idea of you being Johnny Appleseed... or maybe, let's see, Kato Daffybulb?

P.P.S. I have a few clumps of daffs out in my woods. They were there when I moved in 25 years ago and still come up strong all these years later, through all the layers of leaves. I can only assume someone threw a pot or two of easter daffs out in the woods when they were done blooming, and there they are now...

For about 24 hours I was looking at some property about 40 minutes away... old farm field, creek frontage, just over 6 acres, woodland. I can't even take care of my own little suburban plot but here I was imagining magnolia groves and daffodil fields with a woodland full of snowdrops and virginia bluebells. Sure. I could drive out there after work, do a little planting, maybe camp in the summer. Sure.

Love the daffodil fields. if they were closer I'd definitely be tempted! In the meantime I'll start tossing daffodil bulbs out along every country road lol

NHBabs -- I believe Wooster is in Ohio, lol. Tower Hill (fabulous place!) is in Boylston MA, about 8 miles north-ish of Worcester MA. It's been too long since I've been there. Any time of year is lovely ...

I bet Babs was spelling it phonetically! Years ago I was there for a job interview and made the fatal mistake of pronouncing Worcester the way it looks. I got a dead stare and then an "It's pronounced Wooster" correction. Was that why I didn't get the job?? I'll never know...

Haha kato the town I live in has a street named Wooster St. When I moved here I just figured it rhymed with "rooster". So I was saying "wooo-ster" Uh-uh. After being teased I finally learned to say it properly - wuh-ster. Lol now that I think of it, almost just like Worcester!
