The perimenopausal me says a ceiling fan, or even beautiful standing floor fans, would be the only upgrade. I'm a transitional person and I love the more traditional styled furniture.

I hate to point out the step down here - the common element with the toilet photo, if you happened to see that one. At least here, we could all take a header into the comfy white chair.

As a matter of fact, I would be kaboinging off that chair each and every time I entered through those gorgeous doors and would end up on the floor, which is fine, it's also gorgeous. Somebody throw me a book.

Oh my gosh, love this end! We have a windowseat and I hope when I die that they just set me in it, cover me with an old sheet and leave me. With a book balanced on top, of course.

bpath, my mom had something similar. It always perplexed me as a child. I kept turning the handle.

The two steps riser heights are scary for someone like me but at least at this end, the path looks clearer.

If I had enough light to grow plants on my screened in porch, I would make it an all season room like that. I'm actually trying to figure out how to make huge storm windows for the screened in part so I can have that somehow.

It feels cozy and inviting, so I like it. Might eliminate some of the add-ons, but the bookcases, grouping and lighting are all create a warm feeling.

It’s a very nice, cozy room. I agree with Bunny re the plants on the high stands though. Those would have to go. They look too precarious where they are.

Wonderful room! This reminds me of my great aunt’s house when I was young. The brick floors, the bookcases and light furniture and tons of windows. My aunt designed her home and had it built in 1949. Her home has always been one of my favorite houses.

Jill, that sounds so delightful. Lately, I’ve been reminiscing about older relatives’ homes (that I loved) when I was a kid. I’m starting to realize how much of an influence they are regarding my own design sensibilities.

I love it! Except for the rug, I think those wonky stripes would be the end of me :^0 maybe a solid rug? Agree about the plants- never put anything high that could hurt you if it falls- or take out a toe!

Me three on the reminiscing. My grandmother had a "summer porch" and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I decorate my own porch as an homage to grandma's. My other grandmother had one for a while where she lived when I was very young. She had a formal dining room where we had Sunday dinner every week. I try and do that too. Wish "The Wonderful World of Disney" was on. Sunday night is not as great a night on TV as it was when I was a kid. We can't afford the Disney channel. My 95 year old uncle is having to sell their huge Adirondack summer cottage. I wish I could buy it, but it is not to be. It will forever be in my dreams as an ideal home. They bought an old B&B type resort and used it as a place where family could go for rest and relaxation. I dream of such a home, full of music, art, literature and great food. They were teachers and had summers off, so that helped . . .

Oh yes, when I clicked on the "like" icon, it was not due to the color scheme. As much as I LOVE the effect of whites and creams in creating a certain atmosphere in a room, I know they are not for me, an inveterate spiller who is always tracking in mud, even when I take off my shoes I forget and go outside in my slippers . . . and it's not just my feet that get dirty, my pants are often caked with mud. Hubs has hogged all the space in our "mudroom" for taking off clothes and putting on non-dirty ones. We need his and hers mudrooms . . .

So is "Veranda" a magazine one could subscribe to? I'd better not though, I don't have the money to sustain a fabulous home and garden and the last thing I need is more project ideas. I'm amazed at all the work that would go into maintaining such a home and yet is all looks so artful, not the cluttered hodge podge that is my home . . . but part of our problems is we just don't have the space to store all the tools that would go into maintaining that level of landscaping . . . we're already using our walk in shower as a grow room . . . for tomatoes . . .

Gizmo, I used to subscribe to both, and then about 10 years ago started getting them through the library, both print copies and digital.

Willing to bet it's indoor/outdoor rug. Have these rugs do to pets, clean up like a charm. Dash and Albert rugs are tbe best!
