Lighting that keeps people safe at night is the most important. Your porch is well lit, but you might not have that light on all the time. Path lighting will guide your neighbors to your door. Another purpose of lighting is to add drama by highlighting features of your home or landscape. In the photo below the path lighting is obvious, but I've placed small spotlights along the dry creek to highlight it. Or, you could highlight the shrubs. You don't want to overdo lighting, and your lighting should be on a timer that cuts off after midnight. Solar lights go out as they run out of battery power, so I prefer wired lights, especially for a path.

I’m interested in the word ‘supposed’ in the OP. I agree with mindshift. You don’t have to have more lighting. I honestly think it’s a trend largely based on extracting more money from homeowners for unnecessary decor. It’s up to you, although there are people who consider that there is already too much artificial lighting at night. It affects wildlife and impinges on the natural dark of night. So, apart from safety lighting, I’d question whether you need any more at all. Personally, I find the second picture rather spotty. No point in using power when there’s nobody about.

I suspect the only thing you need is more lumens from the sconce next to the garage door. Then check to see if the light from that lamp and the light from the porch overlap. If those two lights cover the front walkway adequately, then you are done. If they don't, then look into lights along the walkway.

Follow the dark sky guidelines. I think that would mean swapping out the porch light (so it doesn't shine upward and -- worse -- outwards) or at least reducing what appears to be over-lamping, swapping the sconce next to the garage door for a model that shines downward onto the path, and using path lights along the driveway. No need to light the rocks or the cactus.
