crumbling grout one week after backsplash installed

Our grout is rough and crumbles if I scrape lightly with fingernail, and not just surface. It's also cracked in corners (where tile on two walls).

What should we do?

I saw that too much water was likely added, but where do we go from here. We've done a whole remodel with new cabinets and counter already installed.

If we just have tile guy (other tile guy, not original) scrape out grout between tiles and reapply, do we have to worry about tiles falling off the wall since crumbly tile is holding them on?

Is it feasible, good idea to remove all tiles, buy new ones and redo?

I want a long term solution since whole kitchen is new.

The grout isn't holding the tiles on the wall, the mortar is. I would call who ever did the original work and have them remove and replace the grout with a Prism grout product. This happened to me on an outside BBQ they scraped it out and placed new grout.... good for 10 years!

That second photo looks like a corner. When you have a change of plane like that, it should never be grouted because it will inevitably crack, like yours has already done. It should have been caulked with a complementary color silicone caulk. Have that corner cleaned out and done properly.

agree with kudzu9 that all corners should be caulked as well as where the tile meets the countertop.

just have the old grout removed and new stuff put in.
