Snow on Japanese Maples

According to my outdoor temperature sensors, it never got below 32 degrees last night. But then we got over an inch of snow. Does that hurt the leaves? It is supposed to be colder tonight. Is it too late to protect my JM leaves or not worth the trouble.

Snow will actually protect the leaves to some degree. And even if some DO freeze or brown and drop off, they will be quickly replaced. I would only afford some protection if the temps were to drop down past the mid 20's. You could get some twig and stem dieback with those kind of lows.
