Black granite countertops with blue cabinets?

In our small kitchen we have black granite countertops with some iridescent flecks. The cabinets are a light oak we would like to paint. I say white overall, husband says dusky blue (SW Poolhouse) lowers with white uppers. What’s the thought on blue next to black? Thanks!

We did blue with black, albeit a very different shade of blue. We like it. Make sure you get the undertones right. While blue obviously starts off cool, there can be warm or cool versions. An in progress pic before floors/baseboards/backsplash finished:

small spaces often benefit from similar tones. It expands the space somewhat visually which is what you want.. Its not hard and fast but dont veer off too much. . Counters remain and they are dark....so do a darker blue on the lowers...that color blue you mention is mid range . If you really want light uppers I'd start at backsplash with basic white subway on up to the white uppers which will keep it light/airy at eye level which helps. The floor , to lower cabs, and the dark counters should work together in somewhat similar intensity and shading. Darker blue? keep counters? slate vinyl square floor tiles or darker hardwood floor? You'll be fine then.

I have a client whose whole kitchen is royal blue with black counters- it is very smart looking (they have recessed lights, pendants, undercab lights, and a skylight...)

I love blue and black together it will be beautiful! I agree make sure you have bright bulbs put into your lighting. A few more lovely images to get the ideas flowing.
