we have a wood pergola and had it stained with arborcoat. it looked stunning, but started peeling almost immediately and we believe it was not applied correctly. after getting some estimates, it will cost the same to strip and restain as it would to remove cedar and replace with PVC (maybe azek?) and wrapping the top in aluminum coil. I don't know much about the materials, but curious if anyone has a recommendation. I don't want to pay to have it stripped and restrained every few years because it costs almost as much as it did to build the pergola in the first place. would love thoughts/ experiences with replacing wood with these materials.
