Your front yard is extremely small and you don’t have room for much. Certainly not large shrubs or trees of any kind. In such a small space, I might go with maybe 3 matching groundcover-type plants on the left and on the right a plant-free bed with a handful of assorted boulders artfully arranged. Something fluffy and colorful in that nice urn, which you could move to the right into the plant-free bed.

You are right that the porch railing and rock foundation are very attractive so don’t plant much.

They came up with a plan at no charge, as they would be benefit from our purchases. Highly recommend this approach as it‘s also important to consider long term outcome as the garden matures.

I agree with Maureen, your local nursery will ask about position of the house, sunlight hours, annuals vs perennials preference, color vs all green, tree height preference, etc. We did the same, and we are very happy with what they helped us choose for our front yard.
