Open Concept Decor Advice Needed

I recently moved in and had to get new furniture. I’m going for a mid century look. I have the big pieces somewhat figured out. I’m still debating on the right dining set, but have the one pictured in mind. I am trying to stick to the colors on the area rug, but am finding it difficult accessorizing. I got the curtains pictured but I feel they clash with the pattern of the rug. However, I think they would look great with the dining room set, but then I don’t know if I should do different curtains in the space. What should I do?

By the way, the two prints on the wall in the dining are not staying. I just haven’t found artwork yet either.

I like the choices you have made so far. I usually like drapes to be the same in spaces that are seen together and usually I like plian drapery nice and full 2x width of the rod min. I like the light fixture and the brass on there can help you add a bit in other places too.I would look for a rug with a bit more color to give you options afor some throw pillws and i like those with a bit of fun. These are rug ideas . Then choose a color from the rug for drapes with the top rug i might go the pale blue in the rug in a nice either linen of faux silk .a nice throw on the sofa in the mustard color . Do not do a ton of pillows IMO if you have to remove pillows to sit then you have too many so a couple in the corner of the sectional is all I would doYou reall y need lighting in the LR so maybe an arc light in the corner by the TV so that is puts light over the coffee table.

Beautiful pieces, I love the rug and blue chair/accent. I would go for a White curtain though, it will contrast less with the dining room blinds and it will ground the space. Your choice of table would look good in the space, consider getting also the chandelier shown above it! Adding some gold accents will break up the matchy matchy effect given by all your tables with black metal. Check out wayfair or houzz for art, inspired by your rug I would choose abstract art with blue and gold, maybe some silver

A side note about the table. If you plan on getting a rug underneith it, go for a solid color much like what they have in the showroom. If you dont plan a rug under the table you may consider a similar table with a solid top, not glass, so it visually covers the floor. Otherwise be mindful of the fact you will see the tile floor through the glass top

You have a great start going! I agree the curtains aren't right.

I would start with painting the wall with the windows for the living/ dining room the same color as your blue accent chair.

Hang curtains as close to the ceiling as you can get and get them 4 x the width needed so they are full in the faux silk white.

The dining room set you chose is very nice and should look great.

Your chandelier I would change out to something like the furniture store had.

Your end and coffee tables are nice just not sure them and the coffee table are the right fit for the look you noted.

Some inspos for you. Hope it helps and can't wait time see it all dine!

These are great suggestions!! Thank you so much! I will shop around and see if I can find some of these items. About the two small windows above the entertainment center. Should I add a window treatment above it in white too? The walls are already an eggshell white so not sure if I would need to color it a light gray?

Also, I would like to keep the coffee and end tables since they are new. Is there any way to make it work?

To address the very small windows on the tv wall, and to balance the ladder you have by the kitchen cabinets I would actually add a ladder shelf underneith the window on the left of the tv

You can store your equipment there at the bottom as well as style the shelf with more objects, photos and plants at the top

You can definetely keep the coffee and end tables, just add some gold accents and/or cover with a white tray for less of a matchy matchy look. You are so close to a perfect apartment!

Suggest solid drapes (in dining room also if possible) and if you want added interest and warmth, add a rattan blind. Rattan blinds alone is another option. IKEA sells nice linen-like drapes and blinds at very reasonable prices. Add color with cushions and repeat color in the dining room‘s art to connect the rooms.

Don’t overdo with MCM pieces, I think what you have is just fine and your rug is as well. Instead spend your money in the dining room. You could add a lamp on side table and/or a floor lamp in corner (or a large plant) near tv.

I’m not a fan of glass tables and I assume you are going with white chairs to complement kitchen. I think the dining table should feel warmer to better work with the living room and add some lovely pottery as a centrepiece.

No drapes needed around the little windows. Keep the the walls white, only other color for the walls would be the one accented in blue where the windows are. This pulls the blue onto that wall and makes a nice contrast and backdrop for your whites and greys and wood, etc.

Also, the pics I posted foot curtains etc are available here if you wanted those exact items.

Maureen gave you some nice decor items.

since you want mcm, then do an actual (or knock off) mcm style media console. what you currently have looks more modern, circa 2005.

maybe use the blue rug you have under your dining table, and get something diff w/some texture for your sofa area (slightly larger than what you have)

Love this look and it could work for yours. tall plant, texture w/rug/throw, some color

    Love this look.

you need some height in the corner. do some type of tall plant

back to the console and wall
