what should a normal carpet seam look like?

We recently had carpets installed in our basement and the seams continue to bug me. Do these look normal? I’ve never noticed seams like this in others’ houses, so I’m just trying to get a feel for how typical this is and if it is acceptable. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You can start with bringing in a Manager to view the situation in your home. I'm a 'solid' flooring pro with a snick of info on sheet/roll products. For me, the seem sits to proud (tall), but that's a personal opinion and not a professional one.

The best thing to do is go over the 'installer's' head and speak with a project manager from the company that supplied the carpet and the pad. Have them into your home to view/feel/inspect the issue.

Remember: squeaky wheel gets the grease. Any time you 'talk' with someone, go ahead and record it in an email back to them....recapping your conversation. That way you have everything in writing. Someone, somewhere *should be clever enough to figure out what you are doing and go ahead and make an executive decision.

Patterned carpet (like your herring bone) can show seams (visually) that medium tuft non-directional carpet (single colour with regular pile). The underpad can also give the impression that there is a change in HEIGHT as well.

Can you FEEL the seam as well as see it?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I can feel the seem. When running my foot over some parts it feels like the rug pad beneath is overlapping. Not sure if that’s what’s actually going on beneath, but it does feel that way - in some places more than others.

How long ago was the carpet laid? How long do you have (according to contract) to ask the installer to come back and fix anything you find?

About 2 months. I’ve already complained, but have been assured it will start to blend in over time. I have 3 kids and a dog who have given this carpet an above-average amount of wear over the past 2 months, and I’ve done a good amount of vacuuming. We have had so many issues with our contractor, this wasn’t top priority. But now that the dust has settled a bit, it continues to bug me. Would you pursue it, in my shoes?
