You can dilute it a bit more and water your plants with it. The creation of sugars is a natural part of photosynthesis so applying sugar water is just short cutting this step slightly. It is also consumed by soil organisms, so will encourage healthy soil biology. And you can always add to your compost. It will accelerate decomposition for the same reason....increased and active soil biology.

There is a lot of opinion out there against using any sugar for watering plants. What do you think about that? My composting is on a balcony in an 18 gallon storage bin. I am wondering if sugar would invite ants.

It's not enough to worry about :-) Unless you are talking about dozens of feeders you are dumping out each week. And I'd never consider Hunker a reputable horticultural authority.......lots of very dubious content on their website.

just keep reducing the amount.. until you figure out what is needed for 2 days ... problem solved ...

i would just throw excess in the garden.. instead of down the drain ... it might not be a useful disposal .. but i dont thing the rivers need to be sweeter .. lol ..

Ken, I don't fill it halfway, like just the minimum that I can measure and see the level in the feeder so I know when any of it is consumed. :) They come and drink stealthily for the most part but I get to see one, once in a while. I know, pathetic. The joys of balcony gardening! But I get that million dollar view of lady liberty, brooklyn bridge, freedom tower, hudson and a golf course thrown in that justifies not having a house with a garden. Also, it keeps my gardening addiction in check, not to mention the other perks of condo living. No mowing the grass, raking the leaves, shovelling the snow. :) I do miss the rabbits, the cardinals, the blue jays that used to visit when I had a backyard.
