I agree. If your doing cans go with 6 or 9 depending on the size of them.

It would make sense to do the lighting while he has access and may even be moving some of the lights cabling and switch locations. Two cans on either end is probably not the correct direction though. A better layout is getting rid of the 3 ceiling mounts and putting all recessed in, but it may not be desirable for your budget and patience.
