Heirloom Roses Fertilizer!!

First every spring I start off with fish emulsion then several weeks later I use regular fertilizer.

My roses have been happy with Bloomkote for years it has an NPK of 16-18-14. I especially like the fact that the fertilizer is applied once in the spring and feeds for about 5 months. Also the fact that the pellets are dissolved by the following season.

I don't recall why exactly, I think I ran low on Bloomkote and bought Heirloom's Boost and Bloom (NPK 15-10-10) to supplement. I had a lot of Heirloom's fertilizer leftover for this spring which I used for my roses after using my standard routine of fish emulsion.

As a result, WOW! My roses have never looked so robust, healthy, FULL and loaded with buds!! The pellets may not dissolve and I might have to re-apply Heirloom's fertilizer unlike Bloomkote, but the results are worth it! So I just wanted to share my experience!

You know rifis actually come to think of it I don't remember having buds this early, especially so many!

Which implies that it is due to something like the weather.

comparing the numbers of the 2 ferts.. they are probably not significantly different ...so i agree with embo ... that its probably related to weather ...

either a mild winter ... or a glorious spring.. or both ...

Actually I don't remember having buds this early in 15 years but either way several of my roses in particular Earth Song and Moon Shadow is the fullest it's ever been and frankly I've never seen that many buds on her before:)

@Marigold33 NY-Z7. Wow that's great! Are you close to NYC? I don't have buds and expect it'll be a while still before I see any.

Marigold33 I am in Brooklyn and a few of my roses have buds, not showing colors yet though. Eden, MAC, Zephirin Drouhin, Olivia had buds first. Peanut sized now. I can see little buds on Earth Angel, Kiss Me Kate, and Laguna too. But just regular buds, not loaded with buds. maybe I will give Heirloom a try next season.

That's great Stacy! I'll use Heirloom's fertilizer next year and compare the results! Every single bush is loaded with buds this year. They only have a few reviews but other people seem to have very good luck with it. But again the true test will be if I have comparable results next season.

Also with all my roses I always have seen neighbor's roses bloom earlier than mine. Especially these pink roses, they all look like they're the same rose bush. Several homes on my block are growing them. I wish I knew the name of the bush, they seem healthy and almost always in bloom!

yeay! NY/NJ rose growers! I’m in NJ and all my roses have buds already, still tinny tho...

earth Angel small band is doing great

Pearly gates has buds all over.

I used the DA fertilize, the Roses seem to like it. Good to know about the heirloom fertilizer, will check out the price for next year!

    Beautiful CeresMer!!

The only bad luck I have is with my Sparkle N Shine. I bought one many years ago (pictured) and it's been an excellent performer a healthy bush with illuminating yellow blooms and it's almost always blooming.

I love it so much I bought another one which survived one winter then interestingly it didn't make it the next winter. Following that I purchased another one and the same exact thing happened it survived last winter but not this one. It didn't leaf out this year it had some green but now it's gone. It doesn't seem to be a cold hardy bush but I was fortunate to get at least one Sparkle N Shine to take off with very little die back each year.
