Okay, just kidding, everyone has their likes and dislikes and that's fine. I just love pink so much!

UpperBay my neighbor had a large grass that, looking at your picture, I assume was some kind of pampas grass. It was next to his garage and for years I loved looking out the window at it, from my desk, especially in winter and especially at sunset, when it cast long shadows on the garage. The new neighbors don't take the same care of the yard and I don't know if they removed it or it just got overgrown with something but I don't see it anymore. I'm kind of afraid of grasses lol and hesitate to plant one of my own!

These are not mine, but can anyone ID what my neighbor is growing along the road because they don’t seem to require or receive any care and they bloom for a very long time. They’ve been there for the nearly 10 years we’ve lived in our house.

Meanwhile in my garden it is the cutleaf coneflowers time to shine

The Homestead Purple Verbena has been blooming since June.

The Pentas I started from seed blooming with the Zinnias.

Markay, I see Heliopsis helianthoides, False Sunflower and Honeyvine/Bluevine Cynanchum laeve. False sunflower does bloom all season. The Heliopsis seems to be holding it's own against the super agressive Cynanchum?

It has held very well! I think I need to get some and hope it holds as well against my invasives.

In no particular order :

A geranium that I enjoy the color of, purchased from gerinacea.com (sp ?)

I think it's barely hanging on in a way but I look for it each year

Beebalm, I always get a few that I would wish would 'mass up' but in this area it's a lot of competition , I'm no longer weeding this 'meadow' area

Some yarrow, can't argue with that color ... and I wish my heliopsis would bloom sooner (the deep red leaves - at least it has buds... I grew the heliopsis from seed, it's in its 4th year

I think it must have self-seeded, the one I have is in a different location and always flops badly but I'm so happy to have this one !

My goldenrods are starting to bloom.

Rouge, my Canna is a classic hybrid between Canna indica and Canna iridiflora. It's called Canna x ehemanii. It looks more like the Canna iridiflora with it's deep red pendelous flowers.

Canna x ehemanii is taller than the usual garden center Canna and it's leaves are wider and bluer. The tubers need special care when they are dormant. That's why they aren't easily available.

All the Canna sold in garden centers today are complex hybrids which were made in France in the late 19th century. They all are collectively known as Canna x generalis. Canna x generalis and Canna indica are the ones sold in garden centers.

I will mention my wish list now.

Canna warszwiczii or Canna indica var marszwiczii

2 native North American Canna species and a few non native Canna species were also used on creating Canna x generalis. They are the yellow flowered Canna flaccida and the wide leaved Canna glauca, both of which are native to the deep southeast, as far west as Texas.

This is 'Panache' a cultivar of Canna glauca. It has a crazy history. Some sea captain brought it to California and it became a pass along plant for years until some plantsman discovered it and realized it's potential.

Hey @Jay 6a Chicago, thanks for taking the time to organize that "Canna post" :). I have never had one in our garden but after seeing your posts I think I will give it a go for 2027! Can Canna be overwintered as one does for alocasia/colocasia ie as a tuber?

They can be stored yes. I overwinter mine in slightly damp peat moss. I think if they are stored dry, a small portion of the tubers can die. I don't mean whole tubers, just like the edges of some tubers. My basement was too warm so they kept growing new stalks. I had to put them in the garage and run a space heater when it got below freezing. They didn't keep growing when I stored them dry in the basement. The tubers will increase in size over time. Many years ago I grew a striped leaved Canna cultivar and the tubers on it didn't increase as much in size as the more common Canna x generalis. They are a breeze to grow. No pest problems. When the final flower on a spike finishes, I'll remove the stem by cutting it off near a leaf so it's not noticable. Most other garden plants look great growing with Canna.

I would prefer this species in my shade garden instead of Jerusalem Artichoke. I could put Woodland Sunflower, Sawtooth Sunflower and Cutleaf Coneflower in there, with the tuberosus and see who wins?

@rouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)I purchased and plantec the cultivar ’Fireworks’ in this general area seversl years back, but it is along the roadside and I think there has been some intermingling with straight species too.

The native species is quite aggressive in my neck of the woods. I did buy a couple of "Fireworks" a few years ago but as far as I can tell they werent able to compete with the exisiting straight species.

I’ve been trying to save my trollius (and other) plants after they were weedwhacked to oblivion by a lawn service who was at the wrong address (grrr). They are finally recovering and I was shocked to see a flower bud forming! wrong time of year, for sure, but I’m happy to see it!

Hey @gardenho_z5, depending on the weather in the growing season as it is in a location that can not receive any supplemental water, it will get between 5 and ,6 feet tall.

Late sown Zinnias are just getting started and the seed griwn Dahlias are fun. Never know what you’ll get.

Nothing really blooming, but my three Stumperies are looking pretty good in September. First one is about 5 months old, second about 2 months, and the third about 16 months.

It has been crazy wind and rain for a couple of days and it is goibg to carry on for another couple of days. So, some of them got to come in early to join the indoor orchids and the winter lights setup came on early too.

In general, the dahlias are going strong.

This has been a good month for Helianthus in central Kentucky, including H. angustifolius (swamp sunflower) in its first season here, and especially a dwarf cultivar of H. salicifolius ('Autumn Gold'?).

Aster 'Alma Potschke and several native aster species are putting on a show. Salvias like 'Amistad' and S. guaranitica selections including 'Van Remsen' continue flowering heavily.

Almost forgot to mention the beautiful but deadly wolfsbane.

Thanks, I believe it's called Baby Joe, it's very reliable but blooms quite late for me, so it's nice to see something fresh as most flowers have succombed to autumn.

Thanks lat62 At this point it is almost a comedy of errors. I ordered a data transfer cable - wrong one. My DD had brought up her cable a while ago and transferred a lot of pics. I took a bunch more pics on my phone. My DD lent me her cable again but it was the wrong one. Geesh. For some reason when I got the phone she not to do the sync.
