Kitchen needs some personality!

My kitchen needs a little personality. I think I made a mistake with the area rug, it is basically sage and blue grey. New quartz countertop, sink and backsplash. Kept maple cabinets, maybe should change hardware?

How about some new art? Another idea... brighten up the inside of the see thru cabinets with some bright colored accesssories, maybe a fun blue pitcher, stacked coffee cups, right now the clear glass items don't show up.. a fun colorful piece of art... is the kitchen open to another room that you need to coordinate colors? Thought blue would pop, but other colors would too.

One more thought... a new wall color perhaps, yellow kinda blends in to the cabinets and kinda dulls the look a bit... again thought, would need to coordinate with other adjacent rooms the kitchen opens to.

Keep thinking of other ideas. An accent wall with wallpaper, assuming that wall stops, could give some interest, add some ginger jars on the open shelving or in the glass cabinets

change the hardware and get a more "visually interesting/focal" rug - that one you have would look great under a table/furniture but not as a "centerpiece".

Yes to changing up the hardware. Satin nickel. Or maybe something funkier. Like a mother of pearl from Anthropologie or something.
I would love to see an island in here. Do you have the space for it?

Also loveeee the idea of bringing in blue. The wallpaper. Omgsh love!! Mwa!
Love those patterned canisters!! Great inspiration

Thanks for all the great ideas..this is adjacent family room....

Unless people routinely sit on the bench I’d ditch it.

You have a cozy house. Blue would be a great accent color in the kitchen.

How about bright blue kitchen towels? Solid, patterned, whatever you prefer. It would tie in nicely and give a good pop. I like to have a towel draped over the sink for drying hands and replace each night with a fresh one.

Bring a bit of black and white into the picture, the graphic qualities will give a bit of personality:) Add black hardware

A combination of pulls and knobs will create some rythm

Replace the rug with an oriental runner in a beige/black or beige/navy combination here are a few options. This will continue the theme with your beautiful rug in the livingroom

Paint the back wall white. Remove bench and replace with a mobile island

Or add a small table in front of the bench if you want a small breakfast table

If you go the bench/table route I would also paint the back of the peninsula black. And add a black/white/blue artwork

How do YOU define personality in a kitchen? That'll guide you better than anything strangers on the Internet could suggest. :) I like the simplicity of your kitchen. The current colours work for me though must say I prefer the white walls LilDesigns Photoshopped. (Maybe the lighting is giving a yellower cast to your walls than they have irl?) I wouldn't consider black hardware though. Love how the current white relates to the light fixture and counter. It's fresh and light. Agree with you about the rug: not sure it makes sense in a kitchen. I'd go with a runner or a vinyl cloth rug for colour (if protecting wood floor was goal). I'd consider a darker frame for the art. Match the bench in colour. It's the frame that stuck out to me at first glance. The bench is lovely and sculptural. If it doesn't impede cabinet access, keep it!

Thanks for your advice. The paint color is not yellow as it appears, it is more of a soft sand color. The print has sentimental value, but I’m going to try a more substantial frame. I added a simple window treatment as well. Thanks again.

I agree about replacing the larger rug with a runner and like the suggestions LIDesignworks suggested. I think your home looks really nice and is only needing some tweaking for additions of color. A handful of pretty and colorful accessories on the counter, in the glass cabinet, yes to blue towels, I think it looks great.

The updates made thus far are a perfect backdrop for a little pop. I would do either a brighter, patterned rug OR wallpaper on the wall with the bench. That is a perfect stand alone wall for wallpaper.

    Thanks!

Check out blue and white Dash and Albert Rugs for your kitchen sink area. They will pull in the pretty blue that you have going on in your family room.

The window treatment is lovely! You've got a great eye. Trust it. :) Love that the art has sentimental value to you. To me, that's personality in a home.
