Get a new framer this is a simple job and any decent framer can build a pocket door framework My advice use pocket doors judiciously not everywhere .

@Patricia Colwell Consulting definitely not hiring a new framer. We do spec homes, so time and efficiency are of the utmost importance to us. We are starting construction in a week. It's not a matter of whether or not the framers CAN do it, I'm sure they could but they would charge us a lot to do so given how many pocket doors we have, and given that we've already signed a contract without "assemble pocket door frames" as a part of their scope. Talk about a wasted change order, no thanks! We simply don't want to pay the extra cost and bother with the extra time to build the frames when the Jeld-Wen preassembled doors work perfectly fine and were already included in our specs. The only issue I am asking about is the soft close soft open. if you have a suggestion for that I'd love to hear it.

@lyfia thanks, I didn't see those earlier! Although I can't seem to figure out how or where to actually buy those .... they're not in stock at home Depot and i can't seem to locate them on the Johnson hardware online ordering page. Hmm ...

Patricia is right. I thought I wanted more pocket doors. Guess what? I dont.

@Leilah Davis contact your local lumber yard. They can probably get it.

ETA: The lumber yard can probably build the frame themselves too with the hardware and deliver you a complete unit.

Cavity Sliders has a soft open/close feature that you may be able to buy separately. Their PDs are very good

Home Depot has A & F soft close/open hardware. The rollers are alittle smaller than Johnson’s version. Might be worth a try.

We’re you able to find any hardware that worked for you? I am in the same situation.

Sometimes a pocket door is the only kind of door that will work. We're replacing a swinging door with a pocket door in our upcoming bathroom remodel.

I don't have any advice but I love pocket doors and I'm shocked that people don't like them. I have 3 currently and am in the process of replacing our bathroom door with a pocket. Love them!

We loved ours, as well. In the 14 years we had one going into our bathroom, it was probably used 25 times. Had a swinging door into the water closet. We also had PD's going into our closets, and only closed them when having company for dinner.

In our new home, we will have a pocket door going into our bathroom. The water closet will have a swinging door. We have two pocket doors entering our pantry. Again, they will probably stay open 95% of the time.

If anyone has found a soft close/open option for Jeld-Wen preassembled pocket door frame please share. Thanks!

We have 7 pocket doors in our 60’s ranch home. We’re in the process of replacing all of our tracks/rollers with Johnson 100PDHD hardware and new solid core doors. We went with non soft close mainly because of reliability. The more parts/complexity you add, the lower your reliability (generally). Btw, the first two doors just got retrofitted and this Johnson hardware is literally silent - highly recommend. Also, I believe pocket doors are one of the most underrated architectural feautres. I think they are mainly avoided due to cost.

Was there any luck with the soft close/open for the jeldwin pocket doors? Having the same issue finding some for our new build. I bought the Johnson with never thinking about the tracks being all different from manufacturer to manufacturer until I went to install them. Need a solution asap, PLEASE!
