I have the same issue. My one DA rose arrived yesterday (they never put in the order for the second rose I requested), and it looks like it was in storage for a long time. All my other roses are budding out and one is blooming. Temps will be in the 80’s this weekend. Still, I expect it to be fine as I have it potted and in the shade for now. If I was planting it in the garden, I would put something over it to shade it and put pine straw up over the canes part way to keep them from drying out and the light starved new growth from burning.

I'm having a similar issue. They left out one of the roses from my order that came a month ago. The latest update is that it will arrive some time in May. My roses are on the edge of blooming now (I'm eagerly awaiting a full opening! ) I'll remember to give it some shade (with shade cloth) when it first arrives and hope for the best. Someone here regularly points out there’s nothing to lose with an iffy DA order, given the long ironclad guarantee. I’ve never dealt with them. You could argue “loss of a growing season” if you had a containerized rose ready to go in the spot.

Can you plant the latecomer in a pot, waiting on in ground for a better time? That way if you get a heat wave you can bring it inside for a bit.

I always grow my new roses in pots for the first 1-3 years, until they comfortably fill a 5-gallon pot. Only then do they go out into the garden....

At this time of year I don't plant ANY new plants other than veggies.

But I live in a climate where the summers are very hot and dry; in areas with reliable summer rains it may be different.
