Is it just me- or does fridge need to open from other side to make it easier to unload food item?

Not just you , the contractor did not follow the plans when setting the window, reducing the dimension to the left, then had to install the refer with hinge in other direction for clearance .....really important that your contractor follows the plans, especially window centerlines.
