Floribunda Rose - Summer Romance (2nd year)

This rose is a beast. It's so healthy and vigorous. However it doesn't seem to like my climate. It loves to throw out octopus canes, then put out a cluster of blooms at the end of each cane. That's the reason I banished it behind the tree. I'm surprised that it bloomed this year with that much shade. The blooms are beautiful and fragrant. Even though it's in its 4th year but it's only its 2nd year at this location because I had transplanted it.

Diane, i can only dream that mine will ever look like yours….i gave one of mine to a lady in Atlanta GA and hers look so much shrubier and bloomed a lot more, and she doesn’t know a thing about roses…

@dianela7bnorthal I love your summer romance, I wish mine would bloom like this!!

I just posted on an old thread about my plant not putting on any blooms after 2 years. I hope someone can chime in and guide please.

Sumera, That is a mystery to me as they look so healthy! Mine started blooming from it's 1st year as an on root. Not a lot but it really took off the second year blooming. Dianela, Your plant looks fantastic. I tried printing mine down more this year but it does love to grow huge with those long canes. Do you find when you did the more extreme pruning that it Forced growth further down the plant To encourage blooming there?

Sumera your plant looks great. In my experience this plant needs a good size before blooming much. I would of course check in case you have midge or something that is preventing her from blooming at all. I have had my plant for 4 years and I just started pruning it heavily (more than half its size). It was a big plant at Lowe’s when I first got it so this is probably 6 years old. I would be patient and give it a few years.

Carol thank you very much! I absolutely love this rose and I am hoping it will rebloom well this year.

Vapor I do think that pruning it very hard helped make it more bushy. I am also planning on pruning it hard after this flush to see if I get good rebloom which I haven’t gotten before. The blooms are huge and very very fragrant here. I only have the one plant because a rose that won’t rebloom is just not something I really want in my garden. If this one starts to consistently rebloom it would be perfection. It stays clean clean of any disease here all season long.

Thank you so much for your help and encouragement!! I’m not seeing any pests on it, it’s one of the healthiest plants actually.
