If glamour is what you're going for, then you'll need to add some reflective surfaces, great fabric for window treatments, a fabulous area rug and a little bling.

I'd change out the chandelier for one with crystals on it. It doesn't have to be a full blown crystal chandelier, but something with some dangling crystals. Can's see the ceiling well in this photo, but you might also want to consider doing one of the ceiling medallions above the chandelier's canopy. It could be painted with a metallic paint - aged and not too shiny.
I'm not sure what I'm ceiling in the middle of the table, but it appears to be too tall. put something else in the middle of the table, perhaps setting it on a round, aged mirror. Floral arrangment?
I'd choose a beautiful area rug next, making sure that your chairs don't fall off of it when people are exiting their seats.
Next, I'd go with some beautiful fabirc drapery on your windows. They should be hung high on the wall, just under the crown moulding and just hit the floor.
There appears to be a lamp, a vase and another object on a buffet or table. Their arrangement doesn't work well. You'll need different items of varying heights in an odd number.
Hard to see what's going on in the rest of space, but better photos could help.

Is that a bay window? I would move the table and chairs closer toward that area and move the chandy over the top of the table. As is the room looks askew.

Pull the settee in closer to the bay first and then position the table.

Replace and add some of your accent pieces.

Thanks so much...I love your ideas. We just spent a lot of money getting the Brazilian Cherry floors. A friend who owes a decorator store said, "you got rid of the carpet and you love the floors--a rug means you should have kept the carpet."

Definitely get a chandelier with some crystal (or a crystal chandelier). You can find them on Craigslist - a used crystal chandy is better than a new cut glass light because it will refract the colors and sparkle more. Replace the centerpiece on the table with a simple greenery/floral (deep purple?) arrangement in a crystal bowl. Silver candlesticks, a grouping of silver (painted) mirrors, and tall slender items rather than the large round pieces will bring more elegance to the room. Place settings of your china on the table. Long drapes that puddle slightly on the floor will draw attention to the windows, and break up some of the gray walls. In the bay window, what about a small mirrored buffet or table, set up as a bar with a decanter & wine glasses? I would not do a rug, because a) I am not a fan of rugs in any eating area b) it will cover your beautiful wood floor.
