LVP in bedrooms?

Has anyone put LVP in bedrooms and if so how’s it working out for you? Any regrets? We need to replace our horrid carpet and while we have hardwood through the main area I’m really drawn to the ease of LVP!

IF you are going to the trouble of replacing carpet with a rigid floor, then I would say bite the bullet and install the same hardwood in the bedrooms. Believe it or not it won't be much more....but your home's VALUE will definitely go up. LVP is not something that 'adds' value to a home. In a case where you remove carpet and then install LVP, the vinyl simply 'maintains' the value already inherent in your home.

A hardwood floor can be 'matched' to your existing one...without having to 'match' it perfectly. Here's what I mean. You have narrow strip (3" or narrower) oak flooring. Assuming Pouncing Kitty, Hidden Tigger is NOT a whopping 4ft tall and 40+ lbs (she doesn't look it...that's a 'May West' cat...sleek and curvy all over!) then this floor is a traditional plank in a traditional material. This type of stuff is SUPER EASY to find.

You can have it installed and finished (site finished) to any colour you want. So long as the species, cut, width and grade match, you will be fine. You can always refinish EVERYTHING at a later date so that everything is matching. That's not a problem. It is MUCH better than putting in fake wood-look stuff that really doesn't match...at all...ever.

Remember: vinyl may 'look' cheap to get into...but getting into a home that used to have carpet is going to be more expensive than you thought. Carpet hides the WORST subfloors in the world. They can be wonky and made out of the worst fibre board on the planet. Getting something like that ready for vinyl = more expensive than the product's worth. And if selling is going to be an option in 10 years or more, you will 'want' to look at removing and putting in carpet (more money to 'maintain' the value of your home...no added value) or add the hardwood at that time (twice the cost if you had just done the hardwood in the first place).

Whereas with hardwood, you are investing in your future return. Yes an extra $3-$5/sf sounds bad now...but all the prep is the SAME as vinyl...SAME! So why not INCREASE the value of your home with a small uptick in materials?

It's your choice. If you must have vinyl in the bedrooms, at least go with something that does NOT look like wood...which means tile or stone look...ugh. Which looks TOTALLY weird in a bedroom, but you will avoid the fashion faux pas of 'real wood against fake wood' dilemma many people find themselves in.

No question. I have had LVP and I really dislike it. Nothing better than hardwood. I would take hardwood or good quality engineered wood always before vinyl of any type. As noted above, do compare pricing.

I’m renting and my landlord put LVP in after removing all the wall to wall carpet in my home. I was very excited to be rid of the carpet. The LVP is noisy in that you hear footfalls and if you don’t put down area rugs, it will sound hollow. I hope this makes sense. So, bottom line, LVP is better than carpet but wood or engineered wood is preferable in my opinion.

I have hardwood throughout my home, and nothing can compare to the “ease” and beauty of hardwood. I can understand (perhaps) the need for LVP in some locations, but I would never choose it, or any other fake wood look flooring, unless I had no other options.

We put in LVP in the kitchen/living room and plan to extend it into the bedrooms. I don't notice any hollowness/noises etc. If I already had a real wood floor tho, I'd see what I could do about matching it rather than getting a different type of floor, b/c probably chances of being able to match what you currently have are probably slim. Unless it was on a different floor, then it wouldn't bother me and I'd just do whatever.

Lots of votes here for real wood...but i question the belief that it is easier to care for...we did not have the option to use real wood so we chose a good quality very realistic looking LVP for the whole house ...would never choose wood over ....the convenience of no maintenance...comfort to walk on...barefoot or in shoes....waterproof but not slippery when wet...perfect consistent color variations ...indestructibility ...with the added consideration that the color we wanted would have to have been a softer more delicate wood like pine...so there are lots reasons why LVP is a good choice...
