It's an oddly-shaped space that makes for an odd layout. Are you moving any doorways/walls in this remodel?

Thanks mama goose and biondanonima. We are not moving any walls or doorways. Behind the refrigerator wall is the living room and behind the cooktop wall is the dining room. It is a tough space. We have a peninsula now and it makes the working area of the kitchen really tight so I wanted to open it up. Kitchen isn’t wide enough for an island but I may get a small worktop table after the remodel. Thanks for taking a look and if you think of anything I could improve within this footprint, please let me know!

Are you open to having the sink in an island? It would mean forgoing the separate wall oven area and moving the fridge over to the right of the window, but it could work as long as the stub walls currently holding the fridge and wall ovens could be removed. It may not be an improvement over what you have now, though, depending on how you cook. Is this typically a one-cook kitchen or a multiple-cook kitchen?

Biondanonima I don’t think the kitchen is wide enough to accommodate an island. I would love to have one but I don’t think it fits. Thanks so much for looking at the layout for me.

From your plans it looks like you have just over 12' of width without the stub walls. That is enough for a narrowish (3-3.5') island, depending upon how much traffic you anticipate in the surrounding aisles. What does the opening on the right of your plan lead to?

So, can the fridge wall be extended?

hi Emily, the fridge wall cannot be extended. we’re not moving any walls or doorways in this renovation. bionandonima, my neighbor has the same house as me and added an island when they renovated. they stole space from where I have the wall ovens planned. it looks great but they have no place to store things and have pantry items and other kitchen things stored all over the downstairs. I would love to fit an island but I don’t think it will work for us. The open space to the right of the plan is a small family room that’s open to the kitchen and there is a doorway leading to a mudroom/bathroom and the garage. Thank you for the feedback and ideas!

Would traffic flow still work if you just built an enclosure for the fridge and cabinet above it, and painted the enclosure the same color as the LR wall? You'd need to move the electrical outlet outside the existing wall. If that's the mudroom/bathroom/garage entry to the left, I'm thinking that's a busy spot.

Hi, thanks all for your interest. I am adding some photos to help explain the overall floor plan. On the measured Kitchen layout I added a D to show where the dining room is, an L for living room, E for entry, P for porch, M for mudroom and F for family room. I added some photos too - pls excuse the mess I just walked in the door from being away and my family was on their own this weekend! Thanks again.

Mama goose, there is an enclosure there for the refrigerator now that we aren’t planning to change, just adding a cabinet above the fridge . is this what you were suggesting? Also I realized that the plan makes it look like there is a big opening to the left of the fridge heading to the entry but it’s a standard doorway. The basement stairs are there too.

I think your space plan is good. It's a small space, but having all that storage on the opposite side of the table will save you.
