hosta roots are supposed to be white.. properly cleaned ...

pot them up.. put in full shade.. and the leaves ought to green up ... and then you can plant them ...

and find a better seller ...

if already planted.. they should be ok.. if you dont get anymore frost or freeze .. but they might get a bit ugly with no proper hardening off to sun ... and temps ..but they wont die from such ...

I am not sure what you mean about sprouts “ curled up, limp as a noodle but they are pure white”. Generally speaking, Hosta leaves are green and shouldn’t be limp as a noodle. As Ken said, buy your hostas from better sellers or venders. Here’s a few: Naylor Creek Hostas, Hornbakers Hostas, Land of the Giants Hostas, Uniquely Hostas, Hostastore.com, New Hampshire Hostas and Maple Creek Day Lilies (they sell hostas also). Good luck! I bet they'll turn green once they see some sunshine. Plants that don't see any sun at all (like in a shipping box or under a tarp, etc) tend to be white, until the sun hits them.

i recall seeing a lot of this in those tall small boxes on bigbox store shelves .. indoors ... inside a sealed plastic bag ... as the song said.. i walked on by ...

i would not expect it mail order ....

They sound like they will be fine except for the limp noodle part. You can soak the roots for an hour and the leaves should stiffen up. As long as your crown is healthy, they will re-leaf if the leaves die. I had a couple Hosta hide in my shed and they leafed out with no sun and
were mostly white. They greened up fine except for one that has a few
leaves with light yellow stripes on it now. However, the leaves were
stiff, not limp.

Just plant them and keep them well watered. They'll be fine.

The nursery supposed to be sending me another box of roots. The first batch in the image below only three came with greenish sprouts and the rest are just sad. I planted these on 5/6/21 I am thinking with this new batch I might be better off letting them soak in a bucket of water with a little bit of miracle growth, or maybe some Dr.Earth root starter fertilizer. I hope they green up, I might end up replacing them with the new one's the nursery sending me, as only two so far look like they're going to grow without some form of deformation.

yes, two look good, but tiny. I would pull off the mushy parts on the others. I would bet on those releafing as long as the roots and crown were firm but not dried out.

but i think i would have still potted them all for a while.. instead of throwing them in the sun ...

i NEVER put fert in a plant hole.. for any plant ...
