Where's Daphne?

I've grown two Carol Mackie Daphne over the past twenty years, with both living to around eight- years. They're so interesting to watch mature, flower, and flourish in all seasons, I'll take them short-lived as they are. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any of the z4 hardy types at retail nurseries within a hundred miles. I'll be making a two-day plant trip to Minneapolis-St Paul soon, but I'm not optimistic I'll find any. I suspect there aren't enough of me out there willing to invest in a short-lived shrub. I may have to resort to mail order on this one.

and not more than an hour from gee tree.. if you are interested in a 10 acres arborteum ... but this is more of a conifer destination

and if i think about it more.. i might remember other places not far away ..

consider a vacation to MI .. lol ...

btw.. im about 15 mins from hidden lakes.. .but there isnt much here to look at ...

hallson gardens used to be about 30 mins from HL.. but they went out of biz ...

Exactly! My ire was focused on Cosmo G. Spacely, president of Spacely Space Sprockets. He had it in for poor George, and I’ve never forgiven him.

btw ... this place is an hour from me... havent been there in a decade ... or two ...

i bought 5 or 6 random Ds from them.. very expensive.. very small rootings ... i got them to full size ... and as you note.. they lived the usual 8 or 10 years... and then basically fell apart ...

i have no idea if they are still in business ... or what is actually available ...

Argh, Ken, why didn't you mention this earlier?! It didn't look like I was going to get any hits here, so yesterday afternoon I ordered two Carol Mackie Daphnes (12" & 18" B & B) from McKay Nurseries, which is just outside of Madison. Expensive, but I am a desperate gardener.

I'm familiar with Arrowhead, but have never used them. I had no idea they had such a large selection of Daphne. I've only grown Carol Mackie, and I find it interesting their comments on the superiority of 'Silveredge' over 'Carol Mackie'. In fact, the only two they offer are 'Silveredge' and 'Gold Dust', neither of which I've grown.

Anyhow, thanks for the reference. I just put it as a favorite on Google Maps and noticed they're about an hour from Hidden Lakes, which is also on the map. :)
