They are both wonderful, especially the blue and purple one. That is spectacular. Paper piecing is not my thing and I so admire people who do it well.

I don't paper piece either. I made freezer paper templates for each piece of the compass. I think it goes together easier for me that way.

They are both beautiful! Such precision. I can't see the quilting in the Mariner's but it looks like you had a lot of thread changes in the crazy quilt. I can't imagine how much time the Mariner's took.

Beautiful. Amazing skill. Did you paper piece the stars in the circles? I'm really enthralled by the second one. I've been playing with my scraps and loving the freedom I have with piecing and cutting to create something one of a kind.

Thank you, quiltnhen, I have no interest or skill in paper piecing. I followed the directions for the mariners compass variations in Judy Mathieson's Mariner's Compass Quilts New Directions book. Honestly, I had never worked with freezer paper or made a mariner's compass block before I read her book. Her directions were very easy to follow. The crazy quilt block was a 8 piece pattern you can download from internet. It was fun to make, too.

Char, what great finishes. I love the Mariner's Compass quilt. I've never attempted one of those. I did make one very similar to your second quilt. So much fun to make.
