The constant use of bleach might be too much for your fabrics. A lot of the folks here have really good experience and you will get some valuable insights when they start responding. In the meantime, no more Clorox until they provide some guidance.

Probably need to increase the detergent dosage.

Bleach is very harsh in the long run, it damages the fiber. Our children's white school uniform Oxford shirts were grayed by chlorine bleach. I now use only Oxi White Revive. It whitens gently and maintains the whiteness.

+1 on the Oxi White Revive. Works great.

If you are using the Normal cycle, please be aware that the temperatures are lower. IE. warm is actually cold, hot is actually warm. I highly recommend always using an extra rinse, especially when TurboWash is active.

I personally have an LG built Kenmore that is new. I honestly can not understand how a Heavy Duty cycle with a prewash and hot water setting would leave anything dirty.

My brother is in landscaping. His clothes are always a mess! I just run a Normal cycle, prewash, extra hot, heavy soil, and extra rinse. I never have an issue with that.

@wdccruise, none of those detergents recommended by Consumer Reports are going to whiten. What the OP needs is a strong detergent with a oxygen bleaching system. Both products you mentioned are liquid detergents which never contain oxygen bleach. Same with Pods.

What I would do in this case, OP, is fill a Bath Tub with HOT Water, and attempt to soak the grey whites in a Solution of Biz Powder Booster overnight. I would than use the hottest temperature and highest water level cycle on your LG Washer, with a strong dose of Powder Tide with Bleach Alternative, with no Chlorine Bleach added. Lastly, I would dry everything on LOW-Heat until the whiteness and stain removal is to your liking, to prevent anything from setting in. This should restore most of the fabrics.

As for the Washer itself, I hope you'll consider a different brand other than LG or Samsung for your next purchase.

What model LG washer did you buy?

Get some Tide with Bleach powder, make sure you use warm or hot water. It's best to test the water after the washer fill to make sure the water coming in is the proper temp. All these front loaders dumb down the temp to save energy, so you might need to use the Whites, Heavy Duty or Allergan cycles on the washer to get a warm or hot temp. Also, use more detergent. For tough stains on whites use liquid chlorine bleach placed in the bleach dispenser.

Laundry Mich and wdccruise, I actually see both of your points.

Clothes that are still dirty from a lack of a good detergent will come out of the wash appearing brighter, or closer to their original color, once the 'dinginess' is washed away. However, if you are truly looking for whiter clothes, an oxygenated bleach will do so.

I actually had to do multiple loads of laundry for a relative recently. One of the shirts was older and very dingy. After one wash with Tide Ultra Stain Release and a little BIZ liquid, the shirt looked like new. No oxygenated bleach needed because a majority of the issue was redeposit and low wash temperatures. If the items were white or very light gray I would have used Tide powder for the benefit of oxidizing any stains to make the item whiter and also removing the redeposited soils, etc.

I can personally attest that many of the Consumer Reports ratings are a crock of $hit! Our home came with a top-rated LG Washer, and it did not wash worth a damn at all. Once we replaced it with an older, Kenmore top loader we were amazed at how much cleaner and better smelling all of our clothes were.

Do not buy LG washer. It does not get clothes clean. It uses too little water

@doreycrouse Does your comment on temperature being lower only apply to the normal wash or any cycle? Are you saying if we want our clothes washed on warm we should select hot? Thank you!!

evegiven0, CORRECT! As far as I am aware, all LG machines use the lower water temperature when HOT is selected. It is about 110ºF, which is warm. The water temperature will drop a little once the tub absorbs some of the heat, too! For a true hot wash, use extra hot on the Sanitize cycle. It does take a while, but it is worth it!! I also HIGHLY recommend you try the Towels cycle. It uses a little more water and rinses far better.

In my LG fl the water temperature in the hot setting is about 40C which is 104F. During the wash If you press the “delay wash” button simultaneously with the “Temp” button the dispaly will show the actual temperature. For real hot you need to do x-hot or sanitize as suggested above.
