Outlet Falls on Backsplash Line

Should we end backsplash on right side of the lights switch, or half across or go all the way to the wall since there’s not much left?

    You should move the outlet.

Thanks. Not much an option as we are completing project today and need backsplash finished today. We have to go around it or to one side.

I would take it to the wall and down to the top edge of the chair rail.

I simply asked a tile guy to come replace the 20 year old backsplash in my house with new. The new will go up higher than the old, so it wasn’t an issue before. I’m just questioning how the contractor wants to do it.

Can you raise the outlet or turn it sideways so it, plus its cover, will be fully above the backsplash? The backsplash will be much
nicer looking if it is a full piece without a notch for the outlet.

Unfortunately the tile guy is doing the tile today and I have to choose between going to one side or covering to the trim. I’m on a deadline to have it finished today. Thank you.

I had a similar problem with my kids' bathroom reno. Here is the post:

Bathroom bullnose vs outlets: AKA Tiny Bathroom's Latest Saga

Unfortunately, the GC didn't realize there was a problem until after the new (taller) vanity was installed. We ended up turning the outlet and the light switch. It seemed the easiest solution at the time. The decision to end the tile at the edge of the sink, rather than to go to the door molding on the left turned out ok.

Here are some photos of the work:

Note: The tiles across the top that were chipped were replaced eventually.

I hope this offers you a potential solution.

If you need to go ahead, buy plenty of extra tile so that you can fix this later.

I would tile to the edge of your countertop which looks in line with your upper cabinet, so the half across option. I'm thinking not having the cabinets/countertop line up would look like a bigger mistake.

We decided to take it all the way to the wall, and I think it looks great. I do have plenty of extra tile if we ever want to do it differently and move the light switch in the future. Thanks!

Looks great! You can always camouflage the outlets a little if they bother you. This is what I did when the electrician placed a switch on a wrong wall and I caught it too late. Hard to even tell from a distance that there is a wall switch.
