Access panel for shower valve

We are remodeling a bathroom and adjacent laundry room. On the back side of the wall with the shower will be a countertop with sink in the laundry room and I was planning on installing a tile backsplash here as well. I was considering putting in a tiled (concealed) access panel at the height of the shower valve which would be in the middle of the backsplash. Is this necessary or recommended? What are the odds it would ever be needed and what kind of repairs could be accomplished through an access panel maybe 12"x 12" in size, centered on the shower valve?
