Please help me out

Hi friends! I bought a couch that is larger than expected. The pieces I have around it look out of proportion and I need help figuring out what I can do to make it look better. I would love to hear what you guys think and any recommendations. Thank you so so much 🤍

We're not in your space so it's hard to tell if the size overpowers the room, but It's likely just a bit larger than you imagined. Select a rug to group your conversation seating on and purchase some great large toss pillows to break up the sea of blackness that is your sofa. I selected terra cotta rugs to coordinate with the wall behind the round mirror.

Select a variety of solid and patterned pillows that all work together and complement the rug you select. Rug first then pillows.

Is that beige paint under the mirror? Beige and black can be an ok combo, I suppose with added textures and sheen.

    Get bigger cats.

    ;)

(They look a bit amazed of the size of your prey.)

Getting a up-the-color and/or strong design rug is excellent advice. Adding a very chunky fuzzy white throw will help too. It’s not easy to put pillows on a glossy modern sofa, but depending on what kind of rug you buy, adding a few with bold graphic and texture might also soften the impact.

For a rug, I think I would consider modern curves and swirls as a design backdrop for the coffee table, a tribal pattern would also go well with what you’ve already got, and might make it easier to get pillows and throws you like. A flashy glam shag might also work, but they are not the most practical choice.

Not suggesting any of these particularly because I don’t know what size they are or your budget. But showing some directions beyond the usual rugs you see offered

PS: You can immediately bulk up the visual appearance of your chair cheaply by adding a white-range pouf/cube. It doesn’t have to match exactly. Be sure to measure ahead of time to get the size you want.

For your coffee table, separate out the two pieces just a bit, and instead of putting dark objects in the center of the white circles, put some brighter colored coffee-table sized books or boxes on table tops.

Buy an inexpensive stool or table or cube/pedastal to pair with your end table, to place next to the sofa.

Ok thank you for your feedback!! I will definitely get a rug, do you guys recommend a particular size, or how do you go by choosing size of rug? Also, in front of the sofa the wall is white and black striped, I worry getting a rug that has too much design will make it look too much or is that still ok? Thank you so much you guys are great!!!

What do you guys think about this one? Or is it too much black/white contrast? I’m trying to stay between black, white, gray and blush for colors so I don’t know how I feel about adding more pop colors into the equation.

    How long is the couch?

I am trying to figure out sofa. Is it two pieces? Where are the seat cushions? If it’s two piece, you might be able to separate and create L shape which would work much better in this space. Don’t buy rug until you nail down furniture arrangement. What’s on opposite wall?

I think bringing in a black/white/gray and dark rug is fine, but hard to say if the particular one with its pattern is the best without being right inside your room. One thing I was thinking as I was looking at your room before is that the design for your rug should be one more like an explosion outward, or arrows pointing outward, rather than one that draws the eye in to the concentrics of the table, like a vortex. I’m a little concerned that the rug you’ve chosen really boxes the conversational area rather than expands it, and your sofa and media set/tv are already creating 2 black walls. This do anything for you? (Sorry, I’ve not checked price or availability in the size you’d need)

I think you will need to brighten your lighting if you bring more black tones into the room via a new rug. Might just be a matter of new bulbs in your existing fixtures or you might want to invest in a plug-in wall sconce or swag chandelier for your dining table, or uplights that sit on the floor. There are also sword-like floor lights that wash walls in light.

I think a softer color rug (vs. black and white) will help tone down the mass of black that the couch appears to be right now. It can still be modern. I like the ideas @ital mover showed you, but maybe in different color combinations.

Okay! I will look for something more colorful. this is my walls in front and behind the couch. It’s been tricky because it’s all an Open floor plan and I’m still figuring out how to decorate. I appreciate your help with this, I am so happy to know there’s people out there so kind to help with these things !!!

The couch is one piece, it’s about 96 inches.

It’s a great space! I love your rose wall and beaded curtain. I keep hoping beaded curtains will make a comeback. They can be so perfect, and your long one is great.

You comfortable with any of these? Again, sorry that I haven’t double checked price, size or availability. Just looking to see what you reject out of hand.

Thank you Ital Mover! I love all those rugs but I feel like I would be going away from my color scheme. I have the idea of keeping it between black, white, blush and gray colors. I love your ideas about the rug patterns, what do you think about this one?

I think all your choices look plausible ang give you a lot of flexibility going forward. If you want to buy rugs online, standard advice is to first order the very smallest size available to check it out for real in your space, without having to wrestle with a huge rug. if you like it you can return it for credit on the size you need, or a a different rug. Just make sure the return policy is clear.

Now we see a large wall, accented with paint. I think to 'match the size' of sofa, you could try a huge canvas art. Or wallpaper in a rectangle, framed with wood trim.

If you like the contrasting charcoal / white rugs, then a soft abstract art?

It looks like you might just need a good rug to help ground the space. Otherwise the pieces you have seem to work well with the sofa.
