I love it!!! Great find! How about Frederic Mistral?? It's supposed to be thornless...or almost thornless.

Here’s a pic of the whole plant I took when I found it at the nursery. I tried to prop that one long cane up against a plastic pot, because it was face down in the ground when I found it.

As you can see there are med-large thorns towards the bottom half of the plant. But little to no thorns on the top half of the stems where the blooms are located.

It's too pale to be Frederic Mistral (which does have some thorns). Diane

I had the same thought as Diane regarding Frederic Mistral, but figured different growing environments can impact the color of the blooms, petal count etc... I have grown/grow both roses. Fred made it through snowmageddon this year but La France did not...

Good luck identifying the rose. It is unfortunate that the nursery ppl. have no idea what it is...

That is a very good guess! I was also thinking La France, Lynne, But mine was more petal packed. However for potted rose maybe it wouldn't develop such a full flower. I have not yet seen flowers from my bush form, only from my climber that died. 1 thing about it though is it is exceptionally fragrant with a strong pure rose scent.

It looks like New Dawn to me.

It does in certain Ways to me also. However none of my 8 new dawn I have such large leaves. Or leaves that look similar to this at all. Also I believe the thorns are place a differently on new don. Vapor, good call on the leaves, but alas, I no longer have a New Dawn to compare it to, leaf-wise. I grew it back in the day for a number of years, then got a mislabeled one last spring that I gave to a friend earlier this year The blooms screamed New Dawn to me, and it's too light for Fred. And Fred is ultra-fragrant. Plus, there is no way the nursery Ann-SoCal described (landscape plants) is gonna carry Quietness (which I have and the color is spot-on), or La France.

Ann-SoCal, can you ask the nursery if they carry New Dawn? That might be helpful to at least hammer down possibilities, since it lost its tag.

I've grown a number of New Dawn over the years, and this rose looks too "hybrid tea" in bloom structure to me to be New Dawn. Diane
