Best countertop material for a garage makeover?

We repurposed our old kitchen cabinets for the garage and need to pick a sturdy but attractive countertop. Any ideas for materials? Husband suggested formica or tile but I don’t like Formica and image the grout between tiles getting grungy looking when he uses the counter top as a work surface. I prefer something smooth, sleek and sturdy, perhaps already fabricated so we can get it cut to size and install. Ideas?

    depends on what he'll be doing on it.


    If he's going to weld on it try stainless steel.


    my hubs {does a lot of wood working) prefers butcher block; durable, you can mount stuff to them, cheap, repairable, flat and true.
