These two leaves look pretty funky. I think I am seeing inkbleed especially in the second pic. The dark spots——-are they translucent? Can you see your finger through the tissue? I recently learned myself that those cold be from recent cold weather or “edema”. Look under Pests and Disease. If you post a few more leaf photos that would help. Wait and see what others say.

I don't see the ink bleed along the veins. My guess would be cold/physical damage. Debra may be talking about the Hosta Library Pests and Diseases page at the link.

Hi Ken, I did look but couldn’t make a definitive call. Do you have any thoughts based on the photo? Should U post a closer photo of the spots? They seem to be worn out on the reverse of the lead too.

There is a hosta disease forum on Facebook. I broke down and signed up for facebook to access it a couple of years ago. I think Carol Brashear hosts it (the host is the companion to the guy who does the hosta library, so I might have the wrong name).

That said, it doesn't look like HVX to me. I would wait and see what happens. The fall is the best time to remove infected plants anyway, as the disease is less transmissible than in the spring. Just be careful until you figure it out.

Thanks, bkay. It's actually an offshoot of a Rainforest Sunrise that I removed from the parent plant because the leaves were coming up half solid green and the other half light green. I will watch and remove in the fall if I see more signs. Off I go to find the hosta disease forum.

I took a couple more photos right now as the area has more light. I see some discoloration but don't know if it is abnormal. It's on the lower right corner of the leaf. 'm also adding some close ups.

If this was my hosta, I would think it was weather related but would keep an eye on it to see if the newer leaves are coming out normal or also stressed looking like this one.

I agree with @sandyslopes z6 n. UT. If this were mine, I would chalk it up to weather. This doesn’t look like anything to be concerned about in my opinion.

Looks environmental to me too. I would watch the new leaves as they unfurl and if you don't see anything on them this summer that would be evidence of environmental damage.

I am so glad to hear that as I have a few hostas now with these lines that I mistook for inkbleed.
