David Austin Rose - Molineux (3rd year - 2nd flush)

Tallahassee FL - Zone 8B

The 1st flush was pretty, this 2nd flush is a little disappointing. Blooms are smaller and are of lighter color. It's in its 3rd year but the bush is still small, maybe it's the pot, or maybe it's just too hot here for it.

Very lovely, as usual Hoang Ton:-) Your roses are always so healthy! I think we talked last year about how shocked I was that my Molineux was so very tall. I was expecting Molineux to be a smaller plant. I do love it, even though it’s bigger that expected and the blooms don’t make good cut flowers.

BenT, mine is in bloom right now and it’s very colorful each bloom is saturated with colors. I do sometimes get that pale yellow, but I enjoy seeing what Molineux will do each flush.

Life of the Party has been one that I’ve been eyeing for a while. It’s just that I don’t trust it to stay compact. It probably really would be the “Life of the Party“ in my garden. With my climate it would probably grow enormous and its new name would be something like “Raging Wild Party”. Thanks for the pictures and videos! I do enjoy them so. Lisa

It's still a beautiful rose, Hoang Ton, and a lovely addition to your deck. Do you expect yours to be tall like Lisa's? Lucky for you it's not a nine foot Golden Celebration. Diane

If it is an own root plant, it won't get more then 2 1/2 to maybe 3 ft tall. I have an own root Molineux that I've had since 2012. It never gets much taller then 3 ft. It will get wider as the years go on. If you want a 5 ft tall plant, get one grafted onto Fortuniana root stock. The color changes as the weather warms up. You have a good looking bush.

    Hoang Ton,

Does Molineaux hold up in the summer for you?

    Lisa,

Life of the Party stays very compact for me. It smells so amazing that I wouldn’t mind if it found some additional vigor and morphed into a ‘Giant Wild Party’.

BenT, negative, blooms shatter fast in spring and even faster in the summer
