Do you have one outside the door?

Do you think you need one? I find that it always gets dusty, so it must be good for the flooring.

You could get carpet and have it bound to fit.

It looks like the door on the left leads to your garage? If so, I'd get a larger rug to use in front of your double doors, at least as wide as the double doors with frame. Maybe a 4X6 would work. Then put a rug on the outside of the smaller doorway, inside your garage, so you don't see it in the entry. You shouldn't need a rug on the outside and inside of the garage.

I think a big rug would look great in there. Sweet Dog agrees. :D

I see no problem with it. It‘s individual preference, fine either way.

Depends - in snowy, muddy areas, a durable mat can be best - placed on the outside, to shake around outside. Not seen indoors.

I don't know how much traffic you get in that area, but I just bought a Ruggable washable rug for my kitchen and am thrilled with it. It has a rubber mat with a velcro-like top and then a cloth rug that sticks to the velcro (and becomes one with it). When the rug gets dirty, you just peel off the cloth layer and wash in your washing machine. It's not bulky and you can wash a large area rug in your machine. Dry on low and reattach to the base.

There is one version that is very low profile and less likely to interfere with the door bottom.

As an additional option, might a round work for you there?

There are square (not rectangular) rugs in various sizes that might work, if you’d rather not have it under the table legs. eSaleRugs is one source.

Suggest picking out carpet to have installed and do the stairs while you are it. You don’t have to pick the same carpet for the floor and the stairs.

kebinmv - having a combination of square/rectangular plus round/oval shapes in a space lends visual interest + balance. This is one of the foundational principles of design. I didn’t give this much conscious thought when I chose the round rug. I just could envision the round in your space; it is a classic shape for an entry and can work nicely (depending on entry, of course). Just like a round center table can also work well in some entry foyers/halls - and is also a classic.

But if you prefer to have all one shape in the space, that is fine, too.
