how to germinate red maple (acer rubrum) dry seed

i bought acer rubrum seeds from sheffields.com in may 1st. I soaked them for 24 hrs, drained, and put all of them in a moist paper towel inside a freezer bag. I put the bag in the back of the fridge and its been 21 days and no signs of germination. the seeds are not dead because i cracked one open and it was completely green inside, with everything intact. I soaked them again in cold water for 12 hrs yesterday, drained them today, and put them in moist potting soil in a sandwich box with the lid on in the back of the fridge. what should i do? how do i deal with dry red maple seeds?

    I will usually use moist sterile sand or moist vermiculite in the fridge, but your paper towels may be fine too....

    The Clothiers site suggests if not sowing fresh immediately upon ripening (and you have said you are not), to give them 9 weeks, not three in the refrigerator. Then sow, keep moist.

    Acer rubrum , Red Maple ,zone= 3 , sow at once upon ripening, or soak, then sow 9 w @ 39ºF, move to 70ºF for germ.

    Be patient. I pulled a couple red maple seedlings from between the floor boards of my deck this month, germinating under less than ideal conditions
