Bloodline went into the ground last fall for some real world garden testing. So far so good. It blushes just as it does in a pot. Some initial sun exposure as it unfurls triggers the blushing sun screen effect.

it’s ready To hit the market next spring in A Limited capacity.

the blushing fades as the heat dissolves the sugars, about July here.

it definitely meets the ten foot rule in spring.

I will sell the first 200 myself. After that it’s up to the nursery/distributor on how many they produce. They carry the cost of production and distribution. And will reap most of the profit. Minus my small royalty. There is no patent on the plant. So once it’s out it’s fair game.

for me it’s about whether I can keep upping the quality And uniqueness. Crossing my fingers, but I see good things happening here.

I know they have the 2nd batch coming out of the lab Soon.

debra, the 10 foot rule. Copied from a post, per Ken.

THE RULE: a hosta that any basic collector can name from ten feet away .. no matter whose garden .... no matter what region of the country or what ever country ..... e.g sum and substance.... its a giant... that grows like a weed, with a unique color ... and frankly ... anyone who owns it can ID it anywhere in the world ... no need to ask the owner.. no need to vein count.. no concern over flower color ... period... YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS from at least ten feet away ... IN THEORY .... there can NOT be a 'look alike' for a ten foot hosta .... that would be contrary to the whole point

That’s amazing! what satisfaction to know you have such a unique hosta to offer. How much volume would you be able to sell next year? I would imagine the available stock would be pretty rare in the early years.
